Root Canal Treatment at Smile Envy Dental & Orthodontics
Are you experiencing sensitivity to hot or cold beverages or dealing with a persistent toothache?
These symptoms may indicate an infection inside the tooth, which typically requires a root canal to prevent further damage. At Smile Envy Dental, our experienced team will guide you through the root canal process with personalized care to ensure your comfort at every stage.
When Do You Need a Root Canal?
When the pulp of your tooth becomes infected, it can cause significant pain and inflammation. A root canal removes the damaged pulp, alleviating discomfort while saving the tooth. You may need a root canal if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Intense pain while chewing or biting
- A chipped or cracked tooth
- Swollen gums near the affected tooth
- Prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold
- Severe gum disease or tooth discoloration
How Is a Root Canal Performed?
A root canal treatment is typically completed in one or two visits. Here’s a step-by-step overview of the procedure:
Anesthesia
We’ll begin by applying a topical gel and injecting a local anesthetic around the tooth to ensure you’re pain-free throughout the procedure.
Opening the Tooth
A small opening is made to expose the infected pulp, which contains nerves, blood vessels, and tissue.
Cleaning the Canals
Specialized tools are used to remove the infected pulp, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected.
Filling the Canals
After cleaning, the tooth is filled with gutta-percha, a biocompatible material that seals the space.
Restoration
A temporary filling may be placed on the tooth. In a follow-up visit, you’ll receive a permanent crown to protect the tooth and restore its full function.
